2011 SMUHA Jarl's Squad Day
The 2011 SMUHA Jarl's Squad day began with the muster and breakfast at Boddam Hall in the early hours. This was followed by visits to Sound Primary School in Lerwick, Cunningsburgh Primary School and Dunrossness Primary School. The Galley accompanied the Jarl's Squad to all the Schools. After visiting the Dunrossness Primary School the squad marched to Mainlands Shop where the Bill was on display, again accompanied by the galley.

The Jarl's Squad then departed for lunch at the Sumburgh Hotel where they also posed for photographs with the Galley. After lunch the Jarl's Squad visited Sandwick Junior High School, followed by the Overtonlea Care Centre at Levenwick. After this the Jarl's Squad departed for tea at Levenwick Hall where they remained until the muster for the evening procession at Sumburgh in the evening. After marching up the ranks at 7:20pm the light-up commenced and the Jarls Squad, accompanied by the Galley and around 400 guizers marched to the Grutness Beach galley burning site.

Following the burning the Jarl's Squad visited the Sandwick Social Club, the Gulberwick Hall, Cunningsburgh Hall, Bigton Hall and ended at the Ness Boating Club. At the Schools, Mainlands Shop and the Overtonlea Care Centre the Jarl's Squad sang the Up Helly Aa Song and also sang their own song - 'Whisky in the Jar', at all the Halls.

During the day the Jarl presented a 2011 SMUHA Commemorative plaque to the Headteachers of each School, the propriotors of Mainlands Shop, the Sumburgh Hotel, the Overtonlea Care Home and each Hall to thank them for their hospitality and to commemorate the event.
