South Mainland Up Helly Aa
Welcome to the official website for the South Mainland Up Helly Aa fire festival, which takes place each year in 'da sooth
end' of Shetland, on the second Friday of March. Up Helly Aa day involves a series of visitations, culminating in a torch-lit
procession and the burning of a galley made each year. This is followed by hours of performing and dancing in halls
throughout 'da sooth end'.
